JMU Safe Rides

SafeRides mission is designed to provide a safer community. SafeRides will provide a safe and reliable service within the Harrisonburg community by providing free rides to intoxicated students and/or to students who are rendered incapable of transportation due to other circumstances. SafeRides members will also work to prevent drunk driving through our efforts to educate and fundraise to help support our mission

Harrisonburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority

HRHA assist eligible low-income families in our area with their rent through housing vouchers distributed by the Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD). Currently, HRHA receives 883 vouchers. Our voucher program serves the City of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, including Bridgewater, Broadway, Dayton, Elkton, Fulks Run, Grottoes, Keezletown, McGaheysville, Mount Crawford, Penn Laird and Timberville.

Gift & Thrift

Our community is a better place because of the services and products we provide through Gift & Thrift and Book Savers of Virginia. Donate and shop at Gift & Thrift and Book Savers. We also support other local non-profits that provide for the homeless, refugees, and other at-risk populations in our community. With our faith driving us forward, Gift & Thrift is a thrift store on a mission to give back to our local Harrisonburg community and world.

Elkton Area United Services Thrift Store

We sell reasonably priced used clothing, furniture and miscellaneous items. The store, which is open to all, generates approximately 40 percent of the funds to support Elkton Area United Service’s programs

Hours of operation: Monday-Thursday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Community Housing Partners

CHP helps income qualifying renters and homeowners reduce energy costs by improving the energy efficiency of the home. Programs include Weatherization, Utilities and Crisis Heating & Cooling. Note: CHP is based in Christiansburg, VA bur provides services state-wide.
