Cannabis has been linked to a range of mental health conditions, especially depression and anxiety.
Cannabis, commonly known as marijuana, is a psychoactive drug derived from the Cannabis plant. According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, cannabis (marijuana) is one of the most used drugs in the United States. Its use is especially widespread among young people.
“ACEs” stands for “Adverse Childhood Experiences.” ACEs are situations or circumstances that people experience in childhood that negatively impact their physical, mental, and/or emotional well-being.
Virginia is currently experiencing an increase in opioid related overdoses with an average of 4 Virginia’s dying from an opioid overdose every day. Opioids are a class of drug that include heroin, synthetic opioids (such as fentanyl), and prescription pain relievers such as morphine, hydrocodone (Vicodin), or oxycodone (Percocet).
According to the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America’s (CADCA) Teen Medicine Abuse Fact Sheet, recent trends show an increase in prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) drug misuse among the youth.
